Glauco Bresciani Silva is a Brazilian federal judge serving on Brazil’s Labor Court system and a PhD candidate in Law at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo, Brazil. He holds a Master’s in Law from Mackenzie, where his thesis on constitutional hermeneutics received the institution’s 2023 award for Best Master’s Thesis of the Year. He is currently a Visiting Scholar at The Ohio State University’s Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society, where he is developing research on social rights through the perspectives of natural law theory and originalism.
He is also a professor at the Judicial School of the Regional Labor Court of the Second Region in São Paulo and teaches in graduate-level law programs. He has also served as a visiting lecturer at other judicial schools. He participated as a student in the Spring School at the University of Glasgow (UK), where he presented his research on the application of natural law theory to the rights of platform workers.
He leads an empirical research partnership between Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie and the Regional Labor Court of the Second Region that uses judicial data to inform public policy and examine the concrete effects of constitutional review.
He is the author of two books and has published articles in academic law journals in Brazil and France. His research interests include constitutional law, constitutional interpretation, legal theory, judicial decision-making, social rights, empirical legal research, and the relationship between law and institutions.
