Weeklong Summer Teacher Workshops

The Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society at The Ohio State University offers summer professional development workshops for civics, government, and history teachers across the country.

These opportunities are designed for high school teachers, but also benefit and are open to educators from third through eighth grade. These workshops increase U.S. teachers’ knowledge of and appreciation for the key texts and events that have shaped this nation’s history.

Summer 2026: Declaration of Independence

In summer 2026, our first set of workshops will provide strategies and resources for teaching about the Declaration of Independence. These workshops coincide with the United States Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Sessions will include lectures from experts on the American Founding, discussion of strategies for teaching the Declaration, and simulation exercises on the Second Continental Congress
