Bio
Dr. Heather Wilford's research and teaching engages with a broad array of thinkers in the history of political philosophy and American political thought, with a particular focus on 18th- and 19th-century French and British authors. She has written and presented on ethics, liberalism, empire, and popular sovereignty in the writings of J.J. Rousseau, Alexis de Tocqueville, and J.S. Mill. Her articles and reviews have appeared in American Political Thought, The Adam Smith Review, Society, National Affairs, and City Journal.
Dr. Wilford has taught at Yale University, Middlebury College, Carleton College, and Boston College. She has held postdoctoral fellowships from Yale University and the United States Naval Academy’s Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership. During the 2018-2019 academic year she was a visiting scholar in the Government Department at Harvard University. She also served as Assistant Director of the Yale Civic Thought Initiative.
She holds a PhD in Political Science from Boston College and a BA in Political Science from Middlebury College.
