Bio

Dr. Michael Clune is a writer and scholar of American literature. He is the author of three scholarly books and three works of creative writing, including most recently the novel Pan (Penguin, 2025). His books have appeared on "best of the year" lists from The New Yorker, Time, NPR, Slate, The Washington Post, and elsewhere. His academic and public writing has appeared in venues ranging from Harper's (where he is a contributing editor) and The Atlantic, to Critical Inquiry and Behavioral and Brain Sciences. His work has been supported by fellowships from the Guggenhem, Mellon, and Baker Nord Foundations.

He holds a PhD and MA in English and American Literature from Johns Hopkins University and a BA from Oberlin College.
