Dr. Jonathan Spiegler's research focuses on political philosophy, specifically on questions of human agency and fatalism in the thought of Alexis de Tocqueville. He has also conducted research in public policy on gun violence in America. His research appears in academic journals including American Political Thought and Policy Studies Journal, as well as in newspapers including The New York Times.
He teaches courses on the history of political philosophy, American political thought, public policy, and public administration. He is the recipient of multiple teaching awards.
He holds a PhD in Political Science from Michigan State University, an MPP in Social Policy from the University of Minnesota, and a BA in Political Science and Economics from Kenyon College. Before joining Ohio State, Dr. Spiegler was visiting assistant professor of political theory at Duke Kunshan University in China.
